MD (at least where I live) is such a bad place for biking.  This area is supposed to be on a plateau.  Personally, when i first heard that, it made me figure that it's all supposed to be flat, right?  WRONG.  Even when I was in shape, it was a bleeding nightmare to bike anywhere because of these hills.  Anyway, biking is the only healthy and free activity I can do that allows me to think.  When everything is both at least 2 miles away AND uphill both ways, suddenly, biking isn't as fun anymore.

Yes, unfortunately, I'm still in MD.  I wasn't able to drop the 20lb I needed to get my ticket out by June.  What this means is that it's even MORE unlikely that I'll be able to make Otakon and/or Dragon*Con since I now have no income.  So anyway, I'm pushing my estimated departure date back to the original Sept and seeing if I can't drop the 20 in the meantime.  I'm also applying for some seasonal work, but we'll see how that works out.

As for series, unfortunately, I haven't bought any manga in months.  However, I'm less that an hour from finishing the Sakigate!! Cromartie High anime.   I also managed to finally finish Haibane Renmei not too long ago.  Now I'm convinced of what I thought of it when I first saw it at JMAC - very pretty (art-wise) and a wonderful story (even though it's not that clear until the last 2 episodes).  Maybe, eventually, I'd like to cosplay from the series.

    Ready?

ACen is almost here. I managed to catch Greyhound tickets (thank you high gas prices for upping plane ticket prices!!). I'm leaving Wednesday evening so that I'll be arriving on Thursday afternoon. I leave Chicago on Tuesday night and get back Wednesday evening. This was because I didn't have anywhere to stay for Mon & Tues night. Unfortunately, what [I just found out] this also means is that I'll [most likely] be missing the nationwide premiere of the Death Note movie. Another unfortunate thing is that I still don't anyplace to stay for Mon night after JMAC, but people have told me to take risks like this before, so I'll just have to wing it. I do have my Dino morpher, so I'm pretty ready for meeting Jason Frank (JASON FRANK!!!).

As for anime, I'm just over halfway through Tengen Toppen Gurren Lagann. I still think it's pretty overrated. I don't think I've ever seen such a short series take so long to even get interesting. It took 8 episodes for it to get interesting (yes, that means I DID like episode 8) and 2 or 3 more for it to actually get good. It's not bad, per say - just not the best series of '07 (I still say Tokyo Tribe 2 gets that prize). I also got through a bit more of Haibane Renmei, which is something I always liked, but just never really got around to watching more of. Something else to know is that now that I have finished one more series, I've discovered a new favorite: Kino no Tabi aka Kino's Journey, which is a series I was introduced to through an AMV I saw that was made for Otakon '06. So right now, I'm only up to four top anime series:

    1 - Great Teacher Onizuka
2 - Genshiken: The Society for the Study of Modern Visual Culture & Golden Boy: The Wandering Student
    3 - Colorful
    4 - Kino no Tabi

I'm still (as always) updating MUGEN. Despite what I said I said in the last paragraph, the brightest star in my roster is TTGL's Yoko Ritona. Also, in preparation for ACen, I got a new PC joypad & a USB hub to contain everything I'll need for a hallway setup.

One more thing - here are a couple of interesting vids that I've seen recently on Youtube:

Apparently, Norm McDonald had some kind of tribute to Pokemon on his old ABC sitcom, Norm. Bloody HILARIOUS.

Someone in France used Tokyo Tribe 2 clips as a video for their song

  • Grumpy, Embittered Old Man w/ Cane

I finally got my toenail fixed. In a matter of speaking, that is. It's no longer there, you see. When I saw the doc pulling out my nail, all I could think of was a clip from an old episode of Captain N where Simon Belmont unintentionally pulls off Donkey Kong's toenail. Naturally, DK was pissed. I imagined I'd feel the same way, but so far, it hasn't hurt too much. On the other hand, I do have a massive limp right now. Enough so that using a cane speeds up my movement. I should be fine for ACen, and definitely fine by the time I [want to] get into basic training. Also, depending on if BT recognizes Federal holidays, I should be able to do AX! I already reserved a pretty close room, so I need to check up on this stuff in the next month.

Sidenote: I'm watching a Fillmore! episode where he's undercover as a pro mini-golf player, and I'm loving the fact that he's dressed up like Tiger Woods. I love Fillmore! It's so awesome because it's like Law & Order: Middle School, but with a great chase scene every episode. It's a real shame it never became as popular as say, Kim Possible.

So, I've been working hard on my Pokeymanz and catching more, leveling up, etc. I just caught all three Regis in Ruby and am going to transfer them to Diamond today. I only have about 160-170 different pokemon total, but my good ones are pretty strong. Goku (Infernape), Charley (Charizard), Metagross, Dingle (Swampert), Galiant (Gallade)...plus some.

  • Now, Now

Last weekend, I ended up going to yet another OB shindig, which (luckily) ended up being the craziest party I've been to since I got to MD. Of course, nothing "major" came about of it, but it was definitely the kind of thing I've been looking to happen since I'd left Chicago. I managed to find a couple of interesting pictures of me:

Yes - leave it to me to bring MUGEN to a party.

I was REALLY amazed at how Pat was just kicking TAIL at Stepmania.

I 'm really not a drinker. Only when there's nudity involved.

I got to meet cool new people as well as got a few new crushes I probably shouldn't have. But then again, with me, ALL crushes are ones I shouldn't have. I also got to trade pokemon with somebody, which always makes me feel good. Also, I realized on Sunday that somewhere between playing with Lendsey a couple weekends ago, and last weekend, that I somehow ended up warming up to Rock Band. But only when I'm playing drums. It's very difficult for me to play the guitars because I'm a switch-hitter and even with the Lefty feature, wearing the guitar is very awkward. I think it also helped [me liking it] since "Timmy & the Lords of the Underworld" is an unlockable song.

As for ACen, I'm very sure I'm going to be able to make it. However, with this new free time I'm going to have, I was looking to make it into about a week-long trip. Possibly arriving Wed night, finding a friend to stay with, then being at ACen from Thurs night - Sun afternoon, and stay with a friend for another night so I can go check out JMAC again on Monday evening and leaving either late Monday night or Tuesday morning or afternoon. On the other hand, I haven't yet checked which friend to crash with. Also still, is the issue of a room. Once again, I haven't fully explored all my options there yet, but unfortunately, a lot of people I know are only doing Fri-Sun. Unfortunately, Ethan James and Ginpachi aren't looking like they'll be able to be done in time. I'm really, really, really going to try to finish up Ethan, though. I LOVE the idea of meeting Jason Frank as a Dino Thunder character.

  • From March 10

Ok, so I just finished the most completely awesome anime series for an Erosennin-in-Training like me: Colorful. It's all about attaining the Perfect Peek. The DVD menu was kinda strange when I saw it, and the guy whom it belonged to used a very vague description for it (probably because he didn't fully understand it himself). But when I saw scenes like this:

...I got it right away - Believe it! Probably because I've been in most of those situations before. And I think one of the reasons I love it so much is that it doesn't try to insult itself with a major storyline. Sixteen six-minute episodes divided into maybe 2-3 scenes of guys either trying (intentionally or unintentionally) to either cop the Perfect Feel or spot the Perfect Peek. Personally, my favorite episode is the one where a giant high school girl pays a visit to Tokyo. Ah, my nose bleedeth already. Just another reason I'm glad to be a part of the "All Things Anime" meetup group. They'll definitely be one of the few things I'll miss when I finally leave here.
